No, you can eat normally. We recommend that you have a meal about 1-2 hours prior to your blood draw and stay well-hydrated on the day of your appointment.

A mobile phlebotomist (blood draw professional) from Portamedic will perform your study related blood draw at your home or a location that is convenient for you.

Once your blood draw is scheduled, a blood collection kit will be shipped to your home address, which will be opened and used by the phlebotomist. It includes 9 blood collection tubes.

Your kit should arrive within 24-48 hours of shipment.

When the kit arrives, please keep it in a safe place until your appointment. It does not require refrigeration or any other specific methods for storage. However, you should keep the kit in a cool, dry place, and keep the kit away from pets or children to avoid damaging the contents.

If you are injured or get sick because of being in this study and the phlebotomist is still there, please let them know and call your doctor immediately. Your doctor will provide guidance on where you should receive medical care. If you think you are having a medical emergency, call 911 immediately.

Due to the nature and timing of the colonoscopy prep, you cannot schedule your blood draw appointment for the same day you are doing your prep. The blood draw appointment should be completed at least two days before you begin your prep.

Please call your doctor to ask if you should have a screening colonoscopy and if yes, if they can set up a referral for a colonoscopy. You will then need to schedule a colonoscopy with that provider.

Fortunately, colonoscopies for individuals over the age of 50 with average risk fall under this coverage. These screening tests are intended to be accessible with no out-of-pocket costs, meaning your deductible should not be applicable. You might want to verify your coverage with your insurance company before enrolling in this study to ensure comprehensive protection.

No, the study will not reimburse you for the cost or the copay for your colonoscopy. However, we hope earning up to $325-$475 in compensation will help to offset any fees incurred during your study participation.

Colon cancer screenings for individuals without high-risk factors, such as a family history or polyps, are typically recommended every 10 years, beginning no later than age 50. However, a significant independent task force recently suggested that adults should begin screenings at 45 years old. If you fall within the 45 and 50 age range, consult your doctor and your insurance provider to determine what coverage is available to you. Insurance companies frequently align their coverage with recommendations from the task force, and colorectal cancer screenings for individuals aged 45 to 75 are generally mandated by law in most private insurance plans, with no co-pay required for patients.
